With a vote of 24 – 16, the New Jersey Senate voted today to advance a bill which would legalize same-sex marriage. Governor Chris Christie (R), insists that there will be a veto and that this type of vote should require a referendum.
Although New Jersey already allows same-sex civil unions, a commission found that “the Civil Union Act invites and encourage unequal treatment of same-sex couples and their children”, in 2008.
The House is expected to approve the legislation on Thursday.
